Services List
WELCOME to our Placement Program

Clever K9s is dedicated to helping all canines in the  Fox Valley Area.   There are always dogs in need of dogs in need of forever homes and we want to assist with that  process in whatever way we can.  We have found a definite  need in the area for a service that can train/rehabilitate  relinquished dogs so that they can be successfully placed in forever homes.   Clever K9s has a staff of experienced dog trainers and dog technicians specializing in dog behavior that will work with a dog until he/she is ready to be placed in a  home.

Once a dog is relinquished to Clever K9s, the dog will undergo a full behavioral assessment and be fostered in one of our staff members’ home.    During that time the dog will be trained to have house manners, including house-training, come when called, sit, down, walk on leash and crate training (if applicable).  When we feel the dog is ready to be placed, potential homes will be screened.  Screening includes approving a written application, checking references and a home visit.  An adoption fee will be required, the fee will depend on what medical services the dog required during placement with us and microchipping (if needed).  Adoptors will also receive discount coupons for training, grooming, boarding and daycare services at Clever K9s.

There is a two-week trial period where your adoption fee is refundable and the dog must come back to us, should you discover that the dog is not the right fit for your family.

After the two-week trial period, should you discover that the dog is not the dog for you, the dog still must come back to us, but we are sorry to say, that your adoption fee no longer refunded.    Those fees go towards helping other dogs.

Our goal is to place dogs into a lifelong home, and we will be available to support the family throughout the dog’s lifetime.re to add text.
Relinquishing Your Dog

Dogs trickle into rescue for many reasons. Some are found as strays or are left at shelters. Some come to us directly as owner-surrenders for various reasons: death, injury, or illness of the dog's owner, divorce, allergies, moving, and behavioral issues.

We realize that relinquishing one's dog can be a painful decision. If we can help you find a way to keep your dog (by offering guidance on behavioral issues, training problems, etc.), we are more than happy to help.

When you contact us about relinquishing a dog, please let us know whether the dog is spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations.  Upon receipt into rescue, the dog will be spayed/neutered (if needed) and brought up to date on vaccinations as needed. The dog will be heartworm tested and have a microchip implanted.   Sometimes the dogs are in rescue for weeks or even months before being placed. During that time, they live in foster homes where they are fed high-quality food.

We do our best to provide socialization and obedience training for the dogs in our care. All of these expenditures far exceed our adoption fee. Your donations are much appreciated.
